Easter
Parade Brunch 2010
The
highly successful Jamaica Red Cross (JRC) Easter Parade Brunch 2010 fund
raising event, was held on Sunday April 4th at the Girl Guides Association
of Jamaica, national head quarters in Kingston. Set against the backdrop of
the traditions of Easters celebration – the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
after the crucifixion. The event feted the traditional Easter activities of
the egg hunt, and the ornate hat parade.
Mrs.
Lois Hue, Deputy Director General of the JRC, was the effervescent host, who
in spite of jetlag did a commendable job requited by supporters in their
participation throughout the day. Executive member of the JRC, Ms. Hyacinth
Smith prepared a delectable array of local dishes - baked chicken, rice and
peas, fried dumplings, calaloo, and ackee and salt fish were just some the
choice combination that supporters had to make; there was also a variety of
beverages and pastries that were on sale. Other items on sale at the fund
raiser included plants, books and bath wares.
There
were many highlights throughout the day; from a dance off with the host (who
does a mean electric slide) backed by the musical styling of Damian from the
Kingston and St. Andrew Branch (KSAB) of the JRC; to the auction off of a
four year old cabernet that got everyone in a bidding frenzy; and a talent
show, that exhibited the many gifts, and skills of poetry, song and dance.
Overall there was never a dull moment; the event was
well supported, with a significant amount raised from the activities, the
proceeds of which will go towards the continued aid efforts of the JRC, in
empowering communities and supporting human life and dignity of the
vulnerable.
