The Jamaica Red Cross Ambulance Unit is seeking an individual with proven experience and technical expertise in emergency medical technology to undertake duties in the position of Emergency Medical Technician.

Purpose of the Assignment

The overall objective of the position is to execute tasks as the Emergency Medical Technician in the Ambulance Unit in accordance with the outlined objectives and agreement between the Jamaica Red Cross, and the EMT. The candidate will carry out various emergency medical technician-related activities. He/she performs various tasks to ensure a prompt response to emergency medical services.

▪ Operate and effectively manage an emergency medical vehicle.
▪ Lift, carry, and transport injured, sick or incapacitated persons from residential or accident scenes to medical facilities or from medical facilities to residence
▪ Oversee the comfort of patient transfers between hospitals as well as from medical facility to a patient’s home
▪ Provide emergency medical treatment to injured, sick, or incapacitated persons.
▪ Communicate with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facility
▪ Arrange for delivery or reception of victims at medical treatment facilities.
▪ Obtain information from persons in order to complete client care forms
▪ Administer prescribed first-aid treatment at site of emergency or in specially equipped vehicle according to established medical protocols.
▪ Stabilize, immobilize, lift and move victims from scene of accident
▪ Supervise the ambulance Team

Required Skills:

• Read, write, and communicate professionally and effectively with patients, employees and managers
• Write simple correspondence or reports
• Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees and/or managers
• Knowledge of Unit protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies
• Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services
• Ability to effectively and efficiently identify and treat with emergency situations

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

• EMT certification
• Certified as a CPR practitioner in Basic Life Support
• Certified as a First Aid Instructor
• Willingness to participate in on-the-job training
• At least two (2) years’ experience
